WORKSHOP OPTIONS that I am happy to teach around the world:
For the past sixteen years I have been giving workshops where I have shared the techniques that characterize my work. I have developed and experimented with them over a long period of time. My teaching is centered on how I view creativity. A wonderfully rich and self-stimulating process that never leads to a failed object, but rather to the discovery of the material to help future solutions. In my workshops I try to teach my technical methods in this spirit, to encourage participants to realize their ideas.
Some course topics can be simplified or expanded to broaden your understanding and help you learn different design approaches.
If you’re interested, please contact me!
During the two days, participants make at least four types of ring base. The ring part will be flat, for comfortable wear.
We will decorate the felted ring bases with different woven designs, with different weaving techniques, and their combinations.
What you will learn:
- How to make a strong yet graceful felted ring base
- How to create a flat strapped ring that comfortably hugs your finger
- How to choose yarns and wool for the miniature weaving techniques
- 4-5 different ring designs/structures
- 5-6 small weaving techniques, that by variation will enable you to make countless more beautiful jewelry.
The course time will allow you to complete one ring with your preferred technique to the full, but not enough to complete all four/five rings bases with the different presented decorative weaving. However, you’ll have sufficient knowledge and preparation for all techniques, and you’ll be able to finish them later. At the course time available I share with you all techniques I usually apply for my rings.
I recommend this tutorial for beginner and advanced feltmakers as well.
During the two days, participants make unique felted sphere with a checkered pattern for spherical shapes of any diameter.
What you will learn:
- How to make the core of the orb.
- How to design the pattern for any sized orb.
- How to prepare different types of pre-felt for this project.
- You can follow the exciting method of the assembling.
- Fulling and forming your beautiful orb.
- And the final touches for the best results.
I recommend this workshop for beginner and advanced feltmakers as well.
During the two days, participants make own patterned felted house for a tea cozy or any other reasons.
In this class, I encourage you to learn and master the method so that you will be able create your own shapes and forms. Alternatively, you can use the template that I designed.
I will lead you through step by step:
- Aspects to consider when designing the form and decorative elements.
- How to create the pre-felts, or use commercial pre-felt for this project.
- How to build the whole pattern around the template.
- How to felt and full the project.
- How finishing touches lead to a beautiful piece in the end.
I recommend this workshop for beginner and advanced feltmakers as well.
During the two days, each participant will make two keychain figures, which they can design for own way.
- I will show you how to make the decorative elements.
- How you use the basics of reverse felting.
- You will learn how to make a holey ball, i.e. a bead, from felt.
- I will show you how to assemble the keychain.
- We’ll start decorating the keyholders together using the embroidery technique I use most often.
In two days, everyone can make a beautiful scarf or stole with different colors on both sides. The colors running along the edges influence the colors inside the scarf. We achieve painterly effects by layering the wool.
What you can learn:
- The subtle color gradients of fine top merino.
- How combined coloring effect of silk and wool.
- The technique of painting silk in a painterly way.
I recommend this workshop for beginner and advanced feltmakers as well.
In the workshop everyone will felt a classic small bag. I will provide the basic template, but the shape of the lid and the body of the bag can be freely modified. You can individually adapt the pattern and color scheme to your own taste.
This double-walled bag is made exclusively from commercial prefelt. By freely shaping the colors and pattern, we achieve extremely exciting and delicate pastel shades.
- On the workshop you will learn what the unique behavioral characteristics of this material are, and how to utilize it to your advantage, even for creating larger, more complex objects.
- You will discover how to shape from it a felted item using a template and explore ways to incorporate it as a decorative element.
- Additionally, you’ll learn techniques to achieve beautiful pastel effects with this material.
I recommend this workshop for advanced feltmakers.
In this three-day workshop, participants will create a hollow felt object measuring approximately 40 × 40 cm (16″ × 16″). This felted creation will serve as a functional and beautiful teapot warmer.
The pomegranate is rich in symbolism across many cultures, representing resurrection, eternal life, sanctity, fertility, abundance, and a blessed future. Its stylized form has been used in various textile designs, and my early tea warmers were inspired by Renaissance pomegranate embroideries. These motifs allow for a lot of creative play.
Felt, with its exceptional thermal insulation properties, is perfect for keeping your tea warm. A felted tea cozy can maintain the temperature of a hot teapot (or even a jug of summer lemonade!) for at least two hours. This cozy is designed for teapots with a diameter of approximately 20 cm (plus handle and spout), though the template can be easily adapted to suit your own teapot’s dimensions. When not in use, the tea cozy doubles as a lovely kitchen or table ornament.
In this workshop, we will focus not only on the technical aspects of felting but also on surface decoration and color blending. I’ll guide you through creating beautiful gradients and teach you how to work with various yarns and silk on thick-walled felt, ensuring that your pattern elements stay in place during the felting process. We will also incorporate additional resists to create exciting shapes and designs, I’ll show several options for decorating the areas between the individual hollow layers. Both sides of the cozy will feature the same pattern.
I recommend this workshop for advanced feltmakers.
In this 3-day course participants will make a medium sized shoulder bag (approx.: 30 x 30 cm), with a flip-top cover and a pocket inside.
Participants can also implement their own design, which can be casual or everyday wear.
The uniqueness of the bag lays in the relief-like, embossed effect technique that is used for the strap connection, the buttoning and for other decorative elements on the bag’s surface.
What you will learn:
- Aspects of designing the bag.
- Making thin but strong felt.
- How to felt decorative elements that are strong enough as structural, functional elements.
- YHow to create the embossed effect on felt.
Making these bags require lot of precision and endurance technically. I recommend this course to those who have already felted before using wool top.
I recommend this workshop for advanced feltmakers.
The creation of geometric spatial forms found in architecture by felting on a built-in template. Lighthouse, minaret, campanile, church tower… we meet them all over the world in so many colors and shapes.
The silhouette of towers is always very expressive. The more dynamic is the silhouette, the more exciting is the final shape. Of course, this theme changed a lot over time: first I only dealt with domes, later I made a base part for them, so they became containers. I often make a removable dome or a small door on their wall. These works are very exciting technically.
During the three days, everyone makes an approx. 45 cm high three-dimensional tower-shaped storage box. We examine the structure of the shapes and make decorative elements for each ornament.
- I will tell you and show you how I achieved the spatial forms I have examined and experimented with so far.
- You can learn how to make a 3D shape, sculpture, with a spatial template.
- You can see what kind of patterns can be achieved using different wool directions.
- You can also experience the shrinkage of different layer thicknesses during felting and how to calculate these factors in advance.
In this three-day creative workshop, you can make a pomegranate bag, storage… which combines the characteristics of nuno felt and the textured surface of higher micron wool.
You can start from three different flat patterns, choosing from which you can make your own bag individual.
If another berry inspires you more, you can adjust the given shape by choosing the colors.
- I’ll walk you through the design process that led to the bag’s signature pattern.
- You’ll learn how to create a thin nuno silk felt.
- How to work it with a thick wool base.
- How to install a drawstring.
I recommend this course advanced students.
After we have recharged ourselves with the warm summer sunshine, why not keep the scent of summer under our heads all year round.
We make a decorative pillow decorated with a landscape, felted to shape, detachable (cleanable) at the back.
The final size of the pillow is approx. 25 × 55 cm (9,85″ × 21,65″), but its shape can be freely modified if desired. You can individually adapt the pattern and color scheme to your own taste.
What can you also learn during the three days:
- I will show you design aspects, based on which everyone can easily design their own dream landscape.
- You can master the technique of wet felting, which is kneaded into a strong material decorated with yarn.
- We will not sew the felt, but will felting it on a template to get the desired shape.
- You will also learn two important felting techniques: creating an image and felting on a template using the inside-out technique.
In this course participants will make a beautiful backpack for everyday wear, the cover of which can be like a small picture.
In addition to the basic techniques of felting, you will learn the following skills:
- You will gain an insight into the design aspects and at some points you can adjust the templates to your own size.
- You will learn the ins and outs of pre-felting and using silk fiber.
- I will show you how to create a thin but strong bag body.
- How to create a strong, stretch-free strap.
- You will learn an exciting, strong way to create the top flap.
- You will receive instructions on how to use small parts.
I recommend the workshop to both advanced and beginner felters. Although the size and complexity of the object require patience to make, the process is easy to master by following the very detailed instructions.
